Creating a Map

Create a map with the map-specific elements available to be inserted.
  1. In the Content Manager, navigate to a desired folder and click Create New .

    Expected Result
    The Create New drop-down menu displays.
    Note:Available options vary based on your configuration.

  2. Select the map type you want to create.

    Expected Result
    The Create New window displays.

  3. Enter a Title and File name.
  4. (Optional) By default, the file is created in the current folder. To create the file in a different folder, click Change and select a new location.
  5. (Optional) To assign the file to a collection, select Collections.
  6. (Optional) To assign metadata to the file, select Metadata.
  7. Click Create & Edit to open the map in the Map Editor, or click Create to create the map and return to the Content Manager.

A new map that includes all the elements available for that map type is created.

Changing the Map Title

Modify the map title after creation.
  1. Open a map in the Map Editor and click Tools -> Change Title.

    Expected Result
    The Title Editor window displays.

  2. Enter a new map title.
  3. Click Save .

The map title is modified.

Adding Content to a Map

Add content components such as topics, maps, and images from the Content Library to a map.
  1. Open a map in the Map Editor.
  2. In the Content Library, navigate to the component you want to add to the map.
  3. Drag and drop the component from the file listing into the Map Editor.

    Step Information
    Tip:A line displays to indicate where the component will be added. Dropping the component on another component will display a green box, indicating the new component will be added as a child of the component already in the map.
    Expected Result
    The component is inserted into selected location and the Insert dialog displays.
  4. Select the type of reference you want to insert.
  5. Click Insert .

The component is added to the Map Editor Pane in the location selected.

Adding an Element to a Map

Use the Map Editor to add an available element to the map.
  1. Open a map in the Map Editor.
  2. In the Map Editor, right-click an element.

  3. To add an element to a map, do one of the following:

    • Under Append element, select the element you want to add as a child of the selected element.
    • Under Insert element before, select the element you want to insert before the selected element.
    • Under Insert element after, select the element you want to insert after the selected element.

The selected element is added to the map.

Moving Topics Around in a Map

Organize topics and other elements in the map to create hierarchy.
  1. Open a map in the Map Editor.
  2. In the Map Editor, select the topic you want to move.Map Editor
  3. Drag and drop the topic to a new location in the map.

    1. To move a topic to a new location, drop the topic above or below another topic.

      Note:A line displays to indicate where the component will be added.

    2. To make the topic a child, drop the topic on top of another topic.

      Step Information
      Note:A green box displays around the topic to indicate that the topic will be a parent topic.

      Expected Result
      The topic is a child of the highlight topic.

The element is inserted into a new place in the map.

Removing Content from a Map

Use the Map Editor to remove content from a map.
Caution:Removing an item will also remove all the references to its children. If the links to children need to be preserved, move them to another location in the map before deleting the parent.

  1. Open a map in the Map Editor.
  2. In the Map Editor, select the element you want to remove from the map and select Remove element .

The element and its children are removed from the map.

Editing Element Properties

Edit the attributes of an element in the map, include the processing-role, Conditional Processing Attributes, and key name.
  1. Open a map in the Map Editor.
  2. In the Map Editor Pane, right-click the element you want to edit the properties of and select Edit element properties .

    Expected Result
    The Edit Properties window displays.
  3. Modify the attributes and metadata fields.
  4. Click Save .

The element properties are modified and saved.

Editing Element XML

Edit the underlying XML of an element in the map.
  1. Open a map in the Map Editor.
  2. In the Map Editor Pane, right-click the element you want to edit the XML of and select Edit Element XML .

    Expected Result
    The Source displays.
  3. Modify the XML and click Save .

You edited the element XML.

Editing Map XML

Edit the underlying XML for the map.
  1. Open a map in the Map Editor and click Tools -> Edit Source.

    Step Information
    Expected Result
    The Edit Source window displays.

  2. Modify the XML and click Save .

The map source XML is modified and saved.

Adding Comments to a Map

Preview a map you have open and add comments to it using the Map Preview Tab.
  1. Open a map in the Map Editor.
  2. To preview the map, click the Map Preview Tab.

    The Map Preview Tab displays.
  3. Click the Comments icon.

    Step Information
    Expected Result
    The Comments pane displays.
  4. Click Add comments and hover over the element you want to comment on.

    Expected Result
    The element is highlighted.
  5. Select the element.

    Expected Result
    A Add a comment field displays.
  6. In the Add a comment field, enter a comment.
  7. Click Save.

    Expected Result
    The element you commented on is highlighted in yellow and a comment icon displays.
