DITAVals enable you to manage the content that displays based on filters applied to content.

DITAVals are essentially files that contain rules for conditional publishing. You can configure DITAVals to include or exclude content based on the Conditional Processing Attributes set on the content. Conditional Processing Attributes can be set on elements in a topic or map.

DITAVals are used for publishing conditional content. When you’re ready to publish, select the DITAVal file from the args.filter field or DITAVal field.

Example

You can create a DITAVal file that excludes content when the Audience field is set to novice. So, any content set with the Audience Conditional Processing Attribute as novice will not display when this DITAVal is used at publish.
Creating a DITAVal File

Create a DITAVal file to filter content.
  1. In the Content Manager , navigate to a folder and click Create New .

    Expected Result
    The Create New drop-down menu displays.
    Note:Available options vary based on your configuration.
  2. Select DITAVal .

    Expected Result
    The Create New window displays.
  3. Enter a File name.
  4. (Optional) By default, the file is created in the current folder. To create the file in a different folder, click Change and select a new location.
  5. (Optional) To assign the file to a collection, select Collections.
  6. (Optional) To assign metadata to the file, select Metadata.
  7. Click Create & Edit .

    Expected Result
    An example action is created in the DITAVal file.
  8. Edit or remove the example action, or click Add Prop to add a new action.

You’ve created a DITVal file to filter your content with. Now, you’re ready to start Applying a DITAVal Filter to Content.

Applying a DITAVal Filter to Content

Apply a DITAVal file and filter conditional content.

You’re in and want to apply a DITAVal filter to view your content.

  1. In the Content Manager , from the Context Map drop-down menu, select Select Ditaval Filter window.

  2. Navigate to and select the DITAVal file.
  3. Click Select .

The DITAVal file filters conditional content. For example, content filtered to be excluded will not display.
