Creating a Map

Create a map with map specific elements available.
You’re in a folder in the Content Manager and want to create a new map.
  1. Click Create New .

    Expected Result
    The Create New drop-down menu displays.
    Note:Available options vary based on your configuration.

  2. Select the map type you want to create.

    Expected Result
    The Create New window displays.

  3. Enter a Title and File name.
  4. (Optional) By default, the file is created in the current folder. To create the file in a different folder, click Change and select a new location.
  5. (Optional) To assign the file to a collection, select Collections.
  6. (Optional) To assign metadata to the file, select Metadata.
  7. Click Create & Edit to open the map in the Map Editor, or click Create to create the map and return to the Content Manager.
A new map that includes all the elements available for that map type is created.

Changing the Map Title

Modify the map title after creation.
You have a map open and want to change the map title.
  1. Click Tools -> Change Title.

    Expected Result
    The Title Editor window displays.
  2. Enter a new map title.
  3. Click Save.
The map title is modified.
Adding Content to a Map

Use the Map Editor to add content to a map.
You have a map open and want to add content to it.
  1. Navigate to the component you want to add to the map.
  2. Drag and drop the component from the file listing into the Map Editor Pane.

    Step Information
    Tip:A line displays to indicate where the component will be added. Dropping the component on another component will display a green box, indicating the new componeent will be added as a child of the component already in the map.
    Expected Result
    The component is inserted into selected location and the Insert dialog displays.
  3. Select the type of reference you want to insert.
  4. Click Insert.
The component is added to the Map Editor Pane in the location selected.
Adding an Element to a Map

Use the Map Editor to add a map specific element to a map.
You have a map open and want to add an element to it.
  1. In the Map Editor Pane, right-click an item.

  2. To add an element to a map, doing one of the following:

    1. Under Append element, select the element you want to add as a child of the selected element.
    2. Under Insert element before, select the element you want to insert before the selected element.
    3. Under Insert element after, select the element you want to insert after the selected element.
The selected element is added to the map.
Moving Topics Around in a Map

Use the Map Editor to move topics around in a map to organize topics and create hierarchy.
You have a map open and want to reorganize the topic order.
  1. In the Map Editor Pane, select the topic you want to move.Map Editor Pane
  2. Drag and drop the topic to a new location in the map.

    1. To move a topic to a new location, drop the topic above or below another topic.

      Note:A line displays to indicate where the component will be added.

    2. To make the topic a child, drop the topic on top of another topic.

      Step Information
      Note:A green box displays around the topic to indicate that the topic will be a parent topic.

      Expected Result
      The topic is a child of the highlight topic.
The element is inserted into a new place in the map.
Removing Content from a Map

Use the Map Editor to remove content from a map.
You have a map open and want to remove content from it.

Caution:Removing an item will also remove all the references to its children. If the links to children need to be preserved, move them to another location in the map before deleting the parent.
  1. In the Map Editor Pane, select the element you want to remove from the map.Map Editor Pane
  2. Do one of the following:

    1. Drag and drop the element into the trash can above the map structure.

    2. Right-click the element and select Remove element.

The element and its children are removed from the map.
Editing Element Properties

Use the Map Editor to modify element properties.
You have a map open and want to edit the properties of an element.
  1. In the Map Editor Pane, right-click the element you want to edit the properties of.

    Expected Result
    The context menu displays.
  2. Select Edit element properties.

    Expected Result
    The Edit Properties window displays.
  3. Modify the attributes and metadata fields.
  4. Click Save.
The element properties are modified and saved.
Editing Element XML

Use the Map Editor to modify element XML.
You have a map open and want to edit an element XML.
  1. In the Map Editor Pane, right-click the element you want to edit the XML of.

    Expected Result
    The context menu displays.
  2. Select Edit element XML.

    Expected Result
    The Source displays.
  3. Modify the XML.
  4. Click Save.
The element XML is modified and saved.
Editing Map XML

Use the Map Editor to modify the map source XML.
You have a map open and want to edit the source XML.
  1. Click Tools -> Edit Source.

    Step Information
    Expected Result
    The Edit Source window displays.
  2. Modify the XML.
  3. Click Save.
The map source XML is modified and saved.
Adding Comments to a Map

Use the Map Editor to preview a map and add comments to it.
You have a map open and want to add comments to the map.
  1. To preview the map, click the Preview tab.

    Expected Result
    The Preview tab displays.
  2. Click the comments icon.

    Step Information
    Expected Result
    The comments pane displays.
  3. Click Add comments and hover over the element you want to comment on.

    Expected Result
    The element is highlighted.
  4. Select the element.

    Expected Result
    A comments box displays.
  5. Enter a comment into the Add a comment field.
  6. Click Save.

    Expected Result
    The element you commented on is highlighted in yellow and a comment icon displays.
You left a comment in the map.
